Cute bun/braid/thing

So, I was just innocently browsing through Instagram, where I happen to follow Birchbox (love), and I saw this picture:

Super cute, right? They even provided this link to a tutorial.

After watching the tutorial, I think to myself... not that hard, right?

Ahem.

This was my first attempt. Turns out a french braid done upside-down is much harder than you would think.

I'm going to keep practicing, though, because I love this idea :)

I heart learning - another certification (Behavior Change)

So I love learning. If it were free and there was unlimited time in life in which I could accomplish everything I wanted, I would be one of those perpetual students, just taking classes and getting degrees until I died. That would be great.

Instead, I love certifications. A lot. A whole lot. They allow me to continue with the learning process without the commitment of regular school.

So, my latest project - NASM's Behavior Change Specialization. I loved it - lots of good information about motivation and working with people based on how ready they are to change their unhealthy behaviors.

I had the exam today, and I passed! Yay! Celebrate! :)

I'm pathetic.... so what?

Guys. I've been sitting at my desk, studying all morning in my PJs... munching on chocolate chips, because I keep a bag at my desk (normal?).

I get to a section on not eating mindlessly, and I take a look at myself. haha. Oops.

While I'm far too lazy to get up and take them to the pantry (I mean, I'm all wrapped in a blanket for maximum comfort study-mode) I realize I can't leave them on the desk, I'll just keep eating. So I throw them a little ways away... trusting that my laziness will keep me from getting up to grab them.

It's working.

Pathetic, I know.

le sigh.

Beautiful Ski Day and Mint

So I've been nervous about skiing. Will it hurt my back? If I crash, will it set me back MONTHS??? Is it even worth it?

We went skiing today (Snowbird) and took it easy. And it was WONDERFUL! Didn't hurt too bad (Except when we had to push ourselves along flat parts), it was a gorgeous day, the runs we took weren't too crowded, we had delicious hot chocolate, I had a hot date... recipe for a perfect ski day. :)

Also, I've been wanting to grow mint (and basil) FOREVERRRRR... and today I got my wish. Say hello to my new little plant! Any tips on keeping it alive haha?

Thoughts on fitness for the new year

Resolutions! Goals! Yay!

While I don't really like to set NY resolutions, it is a great time to reevaluate the progress I'm making. I look at race calendars, personal study, my career, and more to see if I like where I'm at and where I'm heading.

Fitness goals are always in there, for me. And most people, I think. Lose weight, eat better, exercise more, run farther.... whatever those goals may be, I think the motivation behind them matters.

I heard two thoughts recently that I really like.

"Exercise to be strong and healthy. A beautiful soul needs a sturdy vessel."

"Do you work out because you love or hate your body?"

Just some food for thought - our goals should be based on positivity and wanting to accomplish something good rather than based on fear or negative feelings.
